Will an Organic Internet Save Our Analog Environments?

This questions sparked a series of discussions that led to the launch of the “Shifting Ecosystems” Research Lab in 2019. Over the course of a year, artists Christina Gruber, Davide Bevilacqua, and Antonio Zingaro explored the environmental impact of the internet, its resource consumption, and the greenwashing strategies of Silicon Valley.
Now, five years later, we revisit "Vaping Networks” to reflect on the current state of affairs. In a discussion with research-led artist and filmmaker Felix Lenz, we aim to unpack the internet’s extractive thirst and explore how our technologies and data have reconfigured the world.
